Commissioners Court 6 13 2017

Liberty County Commissioners held their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday morning, where Commissioners approved the creation of a part-time clerk position for the county engineering department. This position would be for a maximum of 24 hours per week with pay capped at $10.50 an hour. Interim Engineering Administrator David Douglas expressed to Commissioners the need for this extra position due to the large volume of permit requests the engineering department receives. It has been estimated that the engineering department will handle over 3000 requests this year alone. Next on the agenda, commissioners discussed and approved placing the Liberty County facility maintenance department under the control of precinct number 2 commissioner Greg Arthur. Generally that Department is under direction of Precinct 1 Commissioner. With Bruce Karbowski recently appointment to the position of Commissioner of precinct one, Commissioners agreed to let Greg Arthur head this department until Mr Krabowski is more adjusted to his new position. The Facility Maintenance Department is responsible for plumbing, lighting, A/C and heating, general electrical, roof systems, interior and exterior painting, grounds keeping, building safety and security, annual inspections required by law, the Jail Commission and the Fire Marshal. This department is also responsible for cleaning numerous courtrooms, offices and rest rooms as well as general custodial work throughout the County. The Facility Maintenance Department is also responsible for cost estimates, quotes, material procurement and inspection of capital projects. The Maintenance Department is also responsible for running the Inmate Work Program. Commissioners agreed to put the Facility Maintenance Department back under the direction of Commissioner number one Bruce Krabowski as soon as he is more acclimated to his new position.
