Loose Horse causes wreck on 321

A horse loose on Hwy 321 in Dayton caused a multi-car accident Wednesday morning.  Dayton Police Sgt. Eric Ibarra said just before 6 a.m. on Wednesday, a horse ran into the path of an 18-wheel tractor trailer rig driven by Darryl Ross, 55 of Houston.  From that point a chain reaction of events cause two more vehicles to become involved.  A southbound driver, Gus Pappas, age 67 of Splendora, swerved to avoid the now deceased horse in the roadway.  His attempt to avoid the animal put him directly into the path of north bound Shannon Busby of Houston.  The two vehicles hit nearly head on.  Sgt. Ibarra said the drivers had both slowed considerable and were only traveling about 45 miles per hour.  None of the drivers were injured in Wednesday's pile up on Hwy 321 just north of the Dayton High School.  The owner of the horse has been identified by police as have the family name of St. Julian.  Sgt. Ibarra said the Dayton Police Department continues to investigate to see if charges will be filed on the owner of the horse.  It took over an hour for the roadway to be cleared.
