Take precautions to beat summer heat

As summer temperatures heat up, experts recommend taking precautions to beat the summer heat. Daytime temperatures in the mid-90’s combined with high relative humidity can produce heat index values in the triple digits. Remember, the heat index is a measure of how hot your body will feel outdoors during these hot, humid conditions. When outdoors in the summer heat, experts say everyone should drink plenty of water and wear light-weight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing when possible. Children and pets should never be left alone inside a hot vehicle, for any reason, not even for one minute. Check on elderly relatives and neighbors to make sure they are not suffering in the heat. It’s also important to remember your pets’ feet pads will burn on hot pavement.
