Thursday's Master Gardener meeting to feature turf grass expert

The Liberty County Master Gardeners’ monthly meeting is this Thursday at the Liberty County AgriLife Extension Office in Liberty. Local Master Gardener Sharron McClelland said this month’s program will feature an expert on turf grass and lawn management.  According to the statewide organization’s website, what really sets Texas Master Gardeners apart from other home gardeners is their specialized training in horticulture. In exchange for that specialized training, those who become Master Gardeners then contribute some time as volunteers, working through their local extension office. However, one does not have to be a member of Master Gardeners to participate in their meetings. Again, this month’s Liberty County Master Gardener’s meeting is Thursday of this week. Guest speaker is Dr. Rebecca Grubbs, assistant professor and turfgrass extension specialist from Texas A&M University. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with a potluck dinner and a short meeting followed by the speaker at 7 o’clock. Take note, the local Master Gardeners Association meets the second Thursday of each month, and as always, those gatherings are free and open to the public. Their meetings take place at the extension office, 501 Palmer Avenue in Liberty. For more information, contact the Liberty County Extension Office at 936-334-3230.
