Update on Capital Murder trial of Steven Hobbs

Here’s an update on a former Liberty resident charged more than seven years ago in Harris County with two murders. Steven Alexander Hobbs, who was living in Crosby at the time of his arrest in October 2011, is now set for trial on October 7th.  However, the court docket has shown his case set for trial on multiple dates that have come and gone, so October 7this not set in stone. Steven Hobbs remains in the Harris County Jail facing eight different charges, including murder, capital murder, aggravated sexual assault and kidnapping. Those crimes allegedly occurred in the eastern part of Harris County. At the time of Steven Hobbs’ arrest, Harris County sheriff’s investigators accused him of attacking at least six women – most, or all, of them allegedly were prostitutes. The attacks occurred during a nine-year period. Harris County sheriff’s investigators have said Hobb’s DNA matches evidence found at the scene of the two killings for which he has been charged. According to documents filed with the Harris County District Clerk’s Office, Steven Hobbs is accused of murder in the death of Patricia Pyatt. The 47-year-old man is a former Liberty resident and is accused of using his hands to choke Pyatt to death back in November 2002. Court records show the capital murder charge is related to the death of Sarah Sanford. She was kidnapped and shot on or about October 1st, 2010. Her nude body was reportedly found handcuffed in a wooded area near Crosby. The Houston Chronicle newspaper reported back in 2011 that Sanford’s body was discovered in a location next to a job site manned by security guards. That newspaper report said investigators knew from surviving victims their attacker was a large, red-headed man who wore a uniform. Those victims reportedly later picked out Hobbs from a group of photographs of guards who worked for the company that provided security at that job site. At the time of Hobbs’ arrest, a Harris County Sheriff’s lieutenant said, quote “Steven Hobbs is a predator and he’s been a predator for at least a decade” end quote. Steven Hobbs is a former resident of this area and attended Liberty High School in the late 1980s. Before his arrest in October 2011, Hobbs reportedly came back to Liberty County on a regular basis. Once more, former Liberty resident Steven Hobbs, now age 47, remains in the Harris County Jail where he has been for the past seven years. He is facing charges of murder, capital murder, aggravated sexual assault, aggravated assault and kidnapping. Court records show Steven Alexander Hobbs has a pre-trail conference set for September 9th. His case is currently set for an October 7thtrial in the 351st District Court of Judge George Powell of Harris County.
