Candidate files to run in Liberty City Council Special Election

The candidate filing period for the Liberty City Council Special Election started Wednesday and so far only one person has filed to run for that vacant city council seat. William Neal Thornton is an official candidate to fill the unexpired term of the recently resigned Paul Glazener on Liberty City Council. Mr. Thornton was one of ten people who turned in applications for a possible appointment to that council seat. While those ten citizens answered the Liberty Council’s call for applicants, council members chose instead to call a special election. Liberty Mayor Carl Pickett said with so many applicants it seemed best to put the issue before voters. In addition to the Special Election for Paul Glazener’s council seat, the city has also called for a General Election for three seats on council. Dennis Beasley, Diane Huddleston and Libby Simonson all have expiring terms. Mr. Beasley and Mrs. Simonson say they will seek new terms. Ms. Huddleston said she had not yet made up her mind. The candidate filing period for the General Election does not begin until January 16 and continues through Feb 15th. Once again, so far, Neal Thornton is the only candidate to run for the vacant council seat in the Liberty City Council Special Election. Both the Special Election and General Election will be held on May 4th. Candidate filing for that Special Election continues weekdays through March 4. Candidate filing information is available at Liberty City Hall during business hours, and filing information is also posted at the Liberty city website. Link there from kshn.com.
