LISD Education Foundation receives $50,000 endowment gift

The Liberty ISD Education Foundation has received an endowed gift of $50,000 in support of Liberty ISD teachers and students in honor and memory of Ellison Miles. Kate Wisniewski, director of programs for the Miles Foundation, said that they were thrilled to be in the position to help through this grant. The Liberty ISD Education Foundation was established in 2007 with the aid of the Miles Foundation. It’s a non-profit 501-C-3 organization that funds innovative teaching ideas on the district’s four campuses. LISD Education Foundation Coordinator Bruce Wright said it works in conjunction with, but remains independent of, the Liberty school district.The Miles Foundation is based in Ft. Worth. Ellison Miles was born on May 6, 1918, in Liberty. He is remembered as a World War II pilot, Texas wildcatter, and respected philanthropist. Miles loved his hometown of Liberty and was pleased to support education and learning through his own Miles Foundation created in 1997. Bruce Wright said the Liberty ISD Education Foundation is blessed to have support from alumni, citizens, companies and other foundations to help provide the best educational opportunities for local students. Since it’s inception in 2007, the Liberty ISD Education Foundation has provided nearly $200,000 in teacher grants to enhance classroom learning.
