More on Dayton's Unified Development Code

We have reported on the city of Dayton’s effort to create what is called a Unified Development Code. The code would regulate all forms of commercial and residential development projects in the city. Dayton City Manager Theo Melancon said having the new development code in place will allow control over new construction in the growing city without having to resort to what he called “old school zoning”. Dayton Community Development Corporation Director Courtland Holman said the code protects homeowners as well as retail businesses and industrial companies from non-conforming uses being located next to one another. Mr. Melancon said the city needs the flexibility in managing the coming residential, retail and industrial growth offered by a Unified Development Code.
