Four Dead: More on that horrible Monday morning fatality accident that claimed the lives of four men on State Highway 146 just south of Dayton have been identified. All four of the deceased were from outside of Liberty Co.. According to information from the Dayton Police Department it was around 6:30 Monday morning when a Chevrolet Silverado, traveling south, crossed into the northbound lane of State Highway 146 and struck a Ford F-250 head on. The three men in the Ford truck whom died are Ricardo Martinez-41 of Houston, Alfredo Cuellar Jr. 40 of Beeville, and David Cortes 27 of Hatch, New Mexico. The Driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck, Blaine Springer 25 was also killed. Now here is the story within the story. The Chevrolet pickup truck driven by the lone occupant – Blaine Springer, was reported stolen in Pasadena, Texas earlier the same Monday morning. JP #4 Larry Wilborn told KSHN.com that he ordered autopsies on both drivers. The crash investigation continues by Dayton Police.

Brotherhood Banquet: The Men’s Bible Class of the First United Methodist Church annual Brotherhood Banquet is tomorrow in the fellowship hall of the church in downtown Liberty. This years keynote speaker is Pi Yi Mayo. The standard fare each year is turkey and dressing with trimmings. Mr. Mayo is a lifelong Baytown resident. In a career spanning over 30 years, he is a noted expert in elder law which includes Medicaid planning, special needs trusts, disability law, and veteran’s benefits. Tickets are $10 for the 94th Annual Banquet at the First United Methodist Church, in Liberty available from members of the Men’s Bible Class. Tickets are available at the church office or call 936-336-6401. Women are also invited to attend.
************************************************Dayton Historical Society: The next meeting of the Dayton Historical Society is Monday, February 24, 6 p.m., at Parker Hall. That’s located behind The Old School Museum on Houston Street. Expect to hear an interesting program, taken from the pages of the February 24, 1910 issue of The Daytonite newspaper, edited by M. P. Daniel and P. H. LeSeur. The Dayton Historical Society meets monthly in Parker Hall on Houston Street behind the Dayton Old School Museum.

Obits: Byron Jay “BJ” Varnadore, 64 of Liberty. BJ worked for the City of Liberty for over thirty years and most recently for TX Electric Coop as a Loss Control Specialist. Visitation of Byron Jay “BJ” Varnadore will be this evening from 5-8 PM at Allison Funeral Service. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, at Brookside Cemetery, Houston.
