Robbery: On Wednesday around 1:45 p.m. two men forced their way into the Good Times #3 Game Room at 4080 FM 563, south of Liberty. According to Steven Raspberry, investigator of the Liberty Co. Sheriff’s Office, one suspect claimed to have a gun. One of two men, both described as black males, was taking money from a game room employee, the other was attempting to take money from patrons in the game room. Subsequently, that thief had a physical confrontation with a patron. Then the crooks raced from the game room with some money. A witness described seeing a white female driving the getaway car. The car is thought to be a Ford Fusion, blue in color. If anyone has information about this armed robbery, please call the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at (936) 336-4500.

100 Club: We reported Wednesday that the 100 Club of Houston named Liberty County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Whitten their 2019 officer of the year. 100 Club Executive Director William Skeen told kshn.com the vote for officer of the year was only days before he died while in physical therapy. Mr. Skeen said that, in 67 years of giving this award, this is the first time the hero officer of the year will receive it posthumously. Liberty County Sheriff Bobby Rader got a letter from the 100 Club last Friday however, the Sheriff was unable to reach Deputy Whitten before his death Monday. William Skeen said the 100 Club is currently evaluating what the needs of the family are now, going forward, and how the celebrated 100 club can help with those needs. Funeral for Deputy Richard Whitten is tomorrow at 11 am at The Sanctuary Church, 100 E. Hanson St. Cleveland, Texas 77327.

Candidate for Co. commissioner: Bruce Karbowski is running for the office of Precinct 1 County Commissioner for Liberty County. Mr. Karbowski was appointed Precinct 1 commissioner 3 years ago. Commissioner Karbowski said he has been busy during his short time on the job. He crews have been repaving and reworking 19 roads in his precinct with plenty earmarked for work. Bruce Karbowski is challenged by Rodney Williams, James Carson, and Toby Wilburn. Early voting begins Tuesday February 18th and runs through Friday February 28th. Early voting is at four locations - the Jack Hartel Building in Liberty, Dayton Community Center, Hardin City Hall and Cleveland Civic Center.

Hueske Fort Worth: A 13-year old Dayton 4-H girl showed reserve grand champion heifer last week at the Fort Worth Livestock Show and Rodeo. 8th grader Jaycee Hueske is a 13-years old at Huffman Middle School and she lives in Dayton. Jaycee is a member of the Dayton 4-H. This young lady showed in the Junior Charolais Heifer show in Fort Worth. This is one of the oldest and most prestigious livestock shows of its kind. Exhibitors come from 235 or the 254 counties in Texas. We also learned the Hueske family has hopes for a similar performance by 13-year old Jaycee at the San Antonio Livestock Show, coming up soon in the Alamo City.

Obits: Funeral Service is set for Richard Lee Kopecky, 78, of Dayton who passed away Tuesday. Service for Richard Kopecky will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 15, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Dayton. ** Jacob Robert Wright, 24, of Alvin died Saturday, January 29. Service is at 11 am today in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, in Dayton, Texas.
