Student Fatality: At shortly before 7 Thursday morning, Dayton police were notified of an auto-pedestrian accident at the intersection of SH 321 and CR 676. That’s about 2 miles north of Dayton High School. Dayton City police identified the deceased as Tyrese Manigo, a 14-year-old 8th grader at Woodrow Wilson Jr. High School. Based on information from Dayton Police, the pedestrian was attempting to cross HWY 321 when he was struck by a southbound vehicle. The student was pronounced dead at the scene. Driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. No charges are expected in the accident. DISD officials tell us grief counselors were at WWJH Thursday and will be today as well.
Dayton Chamber Banquet: The Dayton Chamber of Commerce’s 19th Annual Banquet is set for Saturday February 8th getting underway at 6 PM in the Dayton Community Center Ballroom. This year’s theme is the Roaring 20’s Speakeasy. Dayton Chamber Executive Director Paula Moorhaj invites the community to the annual event that includes happy hour, dinner, dancing, 20s music, and awards. That’s the Dayton Chamber of Commerce’s 19th Annual Banquet on Saturday, February 8th, from 6 to 10 p.m. in the Dayton Community Center, 801 South Cleveland Street. The night’s meal will be catered by Marsalis Italian Grill. Tickets are $40 each or a table of 10 for $350. For reservations, call the Dayton Chamber at 936-257-2393.
UIL Realignments: The University Interscholastic League will announce football realignments for school districts across Texas on Monday morning. Every 2 years the UIL adjusts classifications and districts for schools based on the number of students on a specific snapshot date. On Monday those new districts will be disclosed. KSHN.COM will bring you the results of the UIL realignments in a special report as they become available for all schools in Liberty County and in Chambers County. The changes will take affect at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year lasting through the 2021-2022 school year.
Republican Party: The Liberty County Republican Party will be hosting a meet and greet for the Liberty County Republican Candidates at the Dayton Community Center on Tuesday, February 11th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The candidates will be available to discuss issues that Republican primary voter find to be important.
Obits: Mary Lou Puente, 88, passed away Tuesday, at her residence. A long time resident of Saratoga, A service of remembrance will be held Saturday, February 1, at 2:00 p.m. at Roadside Memorial Church, on FM 770 at Saratoga, Interment at City Cemetery in Saratoga. Visitation Saturday at Roadside Memorial Church in Saratoga from 10:00 a.m. until service begins at 2. ***Voe Elizabeth Wilson was born in Liberty on September 17th, 1920, the fourth child of Ross Gerald Partlow and Voe Partlow. She was born in the front bedroom of the 1913 R.G. Partlow home on Grand Avenue, the same place where she died Tuesday. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, at First United Methodist Church – Liberty (AFS). ***Doris Trahan, 81 of Liberty. She worked for 23yrs. as a Security Guard for Warren Chemical Company. Funeral service will be this Saturday at Liberty Church of Christ at 11 a.m. (WFS) *** A very special local citizen, Ken Berry -71 died Wednesday after a lengthy illness. A memorial service is set for February 13th at First United Methodist Church. More soon.
