Property Tax: An important reminder - property owners have until close of business this Friday, January 31, to pay property taxes without penalty. Liberty County Tax Collector Ricky Brown said all 2019 property taxes not paid by that date will incur a 7 percent penalty. For those unable to pay the full amount due before Thursday’s deadline, Mr. Brown said even paying a portion of property taxes owed could save taxpayers a substantial amount of money. The main tax office has moved and is now at 3210 Hwy 90 in Liberty. The Cleveland Annex is located at 304 Campbell Street while the County Annex in Dayton is on FM 1960. All three offices are open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and then from 1 till 4:30. Taxpayers can also make their property tax payment online. You can access the Liberty County tax office’s website from kshn.com – just click on the government tab under local information. For more information, call the tax office at 936-336-4636.

Soccer: The Dayton Bronco Soccer team just keeps getting better – Bronco varsity now has a record of 11 wins, one loss, and three ties. The Men’s Soccer varsity now has seven wins in row. In last Friday’s varsity match Dayton battled back in the second half against West Brook for the 3-2 victory. Bryan Martinez scored one and Alfredo Mendoza scored to tie the game, both in the first half. In the second half Bronco Andrew Sanchez hammered home the game winner with six minutes to play. Incidentally, the Junior Varsity has an extra large squad so they are divided into a purple and a white team. Both of those teams were also winners over West Brook last Friday.. Head soccer coach Jed Garner said that District Soccer competition opens s today versus arch rival, Barbers Hill Eagles.

Band Competition: It was a busy weekend for the Liberty High School and Liberty Middle School bands and Color Guards. This past Saturday both bands traveled to Silsbee to perform in the ATSSB Region X Honor Bands. To earn a spot in the Honor Bands, students competed in November and December against their peers from twenty-seven other school districts. The students rehearsed with their respective groups for the first time in Silsbee on Saturday morning, with the day culminating in a concert performance that night. Also on Saturday the Liberty High School Color Guard competed in the MA Dance and Color Guard Classic festival at South Houston High School where the locals earned a Superior Performance and a trophy. The LHS Color Guard also received an award for outstanding Choreography.
