School Board: We have entered the filing period for school district trustee elections across the state – more specifically here in Liberty County. Of 6 of the 7 school districts Liberty County, each has two trustees with expiring terms. For incumbents who wish to continue serving on their school district board of trustees they must file for re-election before February 14th. It is also time for others who may wish to serve as a trustee to file for a spot on the ballot subject to voting on May 2nd . In the Cleveland ISD, terms expiring for Position 6 is Aaron Montesnieto (montez –ne eto) the incumbent. Position 7 is Ronnie Lewis who’s term expires. On the Dayton ISD board of trustees Thomas Payne is in Position 3 and Josh Day holds position 4 and both have expiring terms – Mr. Payne has already filed to run again. In the Devers ISD Trustee election two board members Delia Sellers and Donna Hebert (a-bear) have completed terms and must file to run again if they want to continue. Hardin ISD also has two seats on that board of trustees with expiring terms, Elaine Tidwell in position 6 in Hardin and Jerry Ursprung has Hardin position# 7. In Hull Daisetta, trustees there with expiring terms are Beth Johnson - position #1 and David McClusky – position # 2. For the Liberty Board of Trustees incumbents with expiring terms is Patty Watson #1 and 5 is D-Ann Berry. Those wishing to continue must file and those who would challenge them must do the same.

Burglary Suspect: The Liberty Co. Sheriff’s Dept. is asking for the publics help. A burglary suspect has hit the same business location two nights in a row, November 25th and 26th Liberty County Sheriff’s Investigator Ann Marie Mitchell is asking the public’s help to identifying a security camera photo of the suspect. November 25th one or more suspects cut the chain off a gate located on FM 770, stealing over $15,000 in equipment from a company service truck parked there. The next night, Nov. 26th, another security chain was removed from the same gate. This time a building was burglarized on the property. That resulted in the theft of 8 rim-mounted tires. This time a suspect was photographed by a security camera. Liberty Co. Sheriff’s investigator Mitchell is asking anyone with information to contact the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at (936) 336-4500 or the Multi-County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-STOP (7867). Texas Parks: A news release from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department tells about the appearance of visitors from every corner of the Texas who headed to one of 76 Texas State Parks on Jan. 1. It was all to help usher in the new decade with a First Day Hike in a big way. The roaring 20’s were welcomed by 5,242 people who hiked, biked and rode a total of 9,564 miles statewide. It was a record number of Texans who visited 76 parks and participated in one of 126 events held on New Year’s Day.

Obits: Shawn Lee Clements, 48 of Baytown died this past Friday at his residence. He is proceeded in death by his father, the late pastor of North Main Baptist, Jimmy Clements. Shawn is survived by his mother, Jeannette Brummett is Baytown, Grandmother Violet Brummett, sister-Jimmie Renee Clements Woods, Daughter-Shelby Renee Clements and Son-Shawn Lee Clements Jr. A Memorial Service will be held today at 11:00 AM Wells Funeral Services – 300 Alabama Street; Liberty.
