Church Safety: We have already reported on the church shooting threat at Open House Ministries in Liberty that occurred two Sundays ago. Fortunately nothing happened in that case. Liberty Police Department Lt. Chip Fairchild, told, if church leadership or organizers for other gathering places should need a security plan in case a shooting tragedy or some other emergency were to occur in any church or other gathering place and need help in creating that plan, then contact Lt. Fairchild at (936) 336-5666. The veteran lawman said while his department will not create a specific plan any church or gathering place organizer will be offered valuable input to that security plan. He said thinking this type of horror could never happen to your gathering place is just not a solution.
Register to Vote: For those planning to vote in the March 3rd primary election, there is a deadline to be sure you are a registered voter. Of course, this especially applies to those who have not voted recently or have never voted. Liberty County Election administrator Klint Bush reminds folks who are not presently eligible that the last day to register to vote is February 3rd. Then early voting for the March primary election starts Tuesday February 18. Klint Bush said registration forms are available at the county clerks office. As we said, early voting then starts February 18 running through February 28th. To learn more call the new Liberty County Election Administrators office of the Liberty Co. courthouse at 936-253-8050.
Heater Safety: With falling temperatures many turn to space heaters for warmth. According the National Fire Protection Association, from 2012 to 2016 86% of home heating deaths in the US were caused by space heaters. Liberty Co. Fire Marshal Bill Hergemueller, a guest on’s Partyline, offered a few tips to help prevent space heater fires. He said do not plug the heater into an extension cord, keep them away from combustible materials, and turn them off at night or when you leave home. The National Fire Protection Association said most home heating fires occur in the months of December, January, and February. Experts say heating equipment is a leading cause of home fire deaths.

Hunter Alley has been in scouting 7 years and earning 35 merit, or achievement, badges.
