New Dayton Fire Truck: At a recent meeting, the Dayton City Council approved a new Fire Truck for the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department. It is no secret that the city has grown significantly. The city administration agrees with their recent growth it calls for added fire apparatus. Dayton City Mgr. Theo Melancon, a recent guest on’s Partyline program, said one feature of the new truck is a foam system. This truck will feature a pump with 1,500 gallons per minute capacity and a foam system. The Dayton City Manager said this will be the first Fire Truck with a foam system. That would help the fire department fight fires more effectively. Mr. Melancon said this truck should come off the assembly line in a few weeks.
New Assistant Golf Pro: In June of 2018 the City of Liberty bought the Magnolia Ridge County Club. Since then the city has been making improvements to the course. Chris Jarman, Liberty Asst. City Manager, on a Partyline Program said the next improvement to the course is an assistant golf professional. Asst. City Manager Jarman said he will interview applicants for the job this week. The new assistant golf professional will be on the management golf course management team. Their main job will be to give golf lessons to all skill levels, with a youth outreach. Mr. Jarman said getting young people involved in golf will help reach a wider group of people that might not have been golfers in the past.
Soccer: Word from Dayton Bronco Varsity Soccer Coach Jed Garner is that the Bronco kickers are still undefeated after a 1-1 tie Friday against regionally ranked Texas City. Dayton’s David Perez scored Dayton’s lone goal to pull the Broncos even with Texas City. Excellent defense from Victor Mancilla, Alonso Puente and Giovanny Loredo shut down the Stings in the second half. Again the Broncos are still undefeated at 3-0-1 this season. Next up is a game (Today) Tuesday. January 7th, when the Broncos soccer team take to the road to meet Caney Creek at 7:30 PM. Soccer Season underway for Liberty: The Liberty Panthers opened their regular varsity Soccer season at the Port Neches-Groves Showcase, which is an invitational tournament. Liberty went 3-0 in that event, not giving up a single goal. In that tourney last Thursday, the Panthers beat the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks 10-0 and then the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns, 7-0. Liberty came back Saturday to wrap up the tournament with a 2-0 win against the Little Cyprus-Mauriceville Bears. Liberty is being led, in scoring, by sophomores Alejandro Montes with 9 goals and Ricardo Garcia with 5. Goal Keepers Jonathan Ruiz and Jaime Lopez combined for those 3 shutout victories. On Friday, the Panthers took a break from PNG to travel to Jasper where they dropped a game 1-0. Up next, Liberty will host LCM, here at Memorial Stadium (today), Tuesday with a 5 pm start. That’s the boy’s varsity.*** Lady Panthers will make their soccer debut at home Tuesday against Fulshear. Start time is 7 pm.
