************************************************ Scare at Church: A 19 year old man, Brady Michael Martinez is in custody following a comment made on Facebook about church shootings. The church, Open House Ministries on Hwy 146 in Liberty was streaming, or feeding live video of their service Sunday morning over the social media platform Facebook. When a live stream is available, people watching can comment on those video feeds. Liberty Police LT Chip Fairchild said the Kountze man commented he wanted to see another church shooting. Police responded to the call of a possible active shooter threat on social media against the Open House Ministries shortly before 12:00 p.m. on Sunday Morning. Officers with the City of Liberty Police Department and surrounding agencies arrived on scene and determined there was no active threat to the church members or public. Law Enforcement arrested Brady Michael Martinez 19 of Kountze for making a terroristic threat, a class B misdemeanor.
Methodist Split: As has been reported extensively in the national and world news media there is a controversy throughout Methodism about that churches position on certain controversial issues. Please note that the First Methodist Church on Liberty is the oldest church organization in all of Liberty Co. Now it appears that Methodism may be moving towards a change in church doctrine that could split that church into two separate Methodist organizations. Sunday, Rev. Josh Hale of the Liberty First United Methodist Church addressed this controversy and when a final stand can be expected. His remarks were heard in KSHN.COM during their Sunday morning service, yesterday.
Back to School: Its back to school time around Texas but not every school district starts the same day. With that, is a certain amount of confusion and we have received six calls asking when school starts where they live. Of the seven different school districts in Liberty County there are three different school start dates. First of all, Devers classes start today. That’s right kids in the Devers School District should be in class today. Now, as far as the other six school districts in Liberty County - Tomorrow –that’s Tuesday - is school start date for Hardin, Tarkington and Cleveland – again those 3 start dates are tomorrow. Then Dayton, Liberty and Hull Daisetta all get back to the books on Wednesday.
Soccer: Bronco Soccer action is up and running for the win. Dayton Lady Broncos 2, Baytown Sterling Lady Rangers - nil. Alondra Sanchez- just a freshman, scored both goals for the Lady Broncos. The Dayton Bronco Ladies are 1-0 on this brand new soccer season.
Obituaries: Johnnie William Smith, 82, died on January 2, at Bayside Community Hospital in Anahuac. He served as an educator in the Anahuac Schools teaching mathematics for 30 years. He was a charter member of the White’s Park Church of Christ, teaching bible classes as well as preaching on occasion. Memorial Service was held last Saturday at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac
