DA Arrested: On Saturday, Liberty County District Attorney Logan Pickett was arrested for assault in downtown Houston. Pickett who is 38 years of age, was taken into custody at the Westin Houston Downtown Hotel. Reports indicate Pickett's wife, Megan Pickett, told the hotel front desk clerk that she and her husband were attending an event at Minute Maid Park and went to dinner before returning to the hotel. Allegedly, Mrs. Pickett had found out after dinner that her husband had not been honest with her and accused the Liberty County District Attorney with having an extra marital affair for some time. That’s when an argument began. Police say, DA Logan Pickett pushed his wife, causing her to hit her head. Medics there determined she needed three stitches to close her wound but she declined that medical attention. The charge, in this instance, was assault against a family member, a class A misdemeanor. Houston media reports the Liberty County DA was the last defendant to appear on the probable cause court docket on Saturday. Before the charge against him was read, the judge noted that "elected officials are held to a higher standard." Pickett was given pre-trial release on Saturday and his bond was set at $1000. In the conditions of his release was a protective order, requested not by his wife, but the prosecutor. Logan Pickett’s concealed handgun license will also be suspended while this case is pending.

Chambers County Death: A Liberty woman was found dead in Chambers County. Sheriff Brian Hawthorne reports that early Sunday morning the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a deceased female discovered in the front yard of a home on State Hwy 61 in the rural area of Anahuac. Sheriff’s deputies identified the woman as Christine Rollins, 59, of Liberty. Sheriff Hawthorne said detectives are unable to determine if she collapsed due to a medical condition and the fall caused the head injury, or if the animals may have caused the fall and contributed to her death. But, they have no reason to believe that there is foul play involved in her death.
