Cambridge: As one of 70 plus cities in the state of Texas that owns their own electrical power system, Liberty is in a unique position to recoup some of the expenses of that ownership. Created in 2011, the Cambridge Project is an agreement between the cities of Liberty, Livingston and Jasper plus others such as Power Company’s like Entergy and some refineries to supply them with additional power to meet their needs. For that, those three cities including Liberty receives compensation. City Manager Tom Warner said since fall of 2013, just the city of Liberty has received some $27 million in funding from the Cambridge Project. Tom Warner said that is 1/3 of what the agreement has produced. Jasper and Livingston also receive about the same amount.

Eagles in the Playoffs: The Barbers Hill Eagles finished the 2019 regular season in football with a super 9-1 record. They lost only to Magnolia in a non-district game early in the season. The Eagles under the direction of Coach Tom Westerberg now move into post season play Friday night . As the district champion Barbers Hill will host Houston Sterling at Eagle Stadium in Mont Belvieu this Friday at 7 PM and KSHN.com will broadcast that game live with Quinton Carter on the Play by Play. The Houston Sterling Raiders finished 5-5 in their regular season. So there you have it Barbers Hill plays Houston Sterling at home in Mont Belvieu Friday at 7 PM. There’s the good news for Eagle Fans –Now here’s the bad news. As we told you earlier in this report KSHN.com will broadcast the game live in audio and that is accurate. However, the university interscholastic league that rules over all extra curricular activities sold the TV coverage of the post season playoffs to Fox Sports. When we contacted Fox Sports to make arrangements to televise to steam video of playoff games, as we have all season, we were informed that we would be charged $1,000 for KSHN.com to stream each game to our many viewers in the Barbers Hill area. Our apologies- we are surprised and disappointed. Again, we will have the games, live sound only, this Friday night, but no video.

Road Closure: Starting today, the Grand Parkway Infrastructure team will be setting bridge beams over FM 1413 in Dayton, TX. To perform this operation, the team will be closing all travels on FM 1413 at CR 491 beginning at 9 AM Thursday, November 14 through Midnight November 15. Detours will be put in place for motorist for the duration of the closure. Signage and police officers will on site to assist with traffic management.

LCSO Employee of the Month: At the November Liberty Co. Sheriff’s departmental meeting, Chief Deputy Don Neyland announced that Deputy Linda Longoria has been selected as the Employee of the Month. Deputy Longoria goes above and beyond the call of duty to respond to calls for service and never hesitates to assist other deputies, or calls from the public with questions, even to lend only a sympathetic ear to a citizen who may need advice. These positive work ethics regarding Linda Longoria were demonstrated again when she accepted the award and said simply, “ I’m just doing my job”. That’s another reason she was honored as Liberty Co. Sheriff’s Employee of the Month.
