Federal Indictment: A Federal Grand Jury in Beaumont has indicted Jimmy James Mamoth Jr 58 of Kemah for attempted bank robbery. According to the US Attorneys office in Beaumont, Mamoth was seen walking outside Texas First Bank in Hull with a dark hooded jacket with a Halloween style mask on his face wearing gloves and carrying a duffle bag. A bank customer noticed the 58-year-old was entering the bank and honked their horn which startled the would be robber. Mamoth fled on foot to near by woods. Law Enforcement officers located Mamoth and placed him under arrest. U.S. Attorney Joe Brown called the customer a hero for thwarting a robbery. If Mammoth is convicted he could face up to 20 years in federal prison. The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office.
Fatality: Two people have now died due to injuries sustained in the late Thursday afternoon crash in the Hwy 90 river bottom between Liberty and Dayton. The initial investigation determined a Ford pickup was traveling eastbound on Hwy 90 when that vehicle veered across the road, through the median, striking the rear axels of an 18-wheeler headed west on Hwy 90. The truck then spun around and was struck by a large medical imaging van before coming to rest in the median. The driver of the Ford, Russell Allen Ham, 79 from Louisiana was taken to Liberty Dayton Hospital where he was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Larry Wilburn. The driver of the van was identified as Margarito Dominguez Jr. age 59. He was transported by Air Ambulance to Hermann Hospital where he later died of injuries sustained.
Livestock Ordinance: The City of Dayton updated its Animal Control Ordinance on September 16, which includes language referring to the keeping of livestock. That ordinance has cause a stir on social media, and most of it, not true. Officials of the city of Dayton released a full explanation of the ordinance addressing some of the rumors on their website. To start they said the City of Dayton has not banned livestock, nor is a livestock ban being considered. The ordinance sets requirements on how and where livestock can be maintained. It adds if your property already has an agricultural exemption you are grandfathered. The actual ordinance is available on the city of Dayton website.
Football: Week 6 of the high school football season was put to rest Friday. The Liberty Panthers traveled to Huntington to take on the Red Devils-final Liberty 56 Huntington 14. The Dayton Broncos hosted the Crosby Cougars. That final had the Broncos at 0 and the Cougars 44. The Barbers Hill Eagles hit the road to face the Nederland Bulldogs. The Eagles 40 and Bulldogs 14. Video of Dayton, Liberty and Barbers Hill are available at
Obituaries: Maurice “Mike” Latiolais, 93, of Anahuac. Funeral service is Monday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Light Catholic Church in Anahuac (SFH).
