Commissioners: Liberty County Commissioners met yesterday morning for their regular session. Liberty County Judge Jay Knight said they passed the position budget for fiscal year ending September 2020. Judge Knight said this portion of the budget, covering all the county employees is about 70 percent of their budget overall. As far as changes in the personnel budget, Jay Knight pointed out they added a position in the form of a new county court-at-law judge – Judge Don Taylor has accepted the appointment for that position until the next election. Also County Judge Jay Knight said another new full time job is for an Election Administrator. Judge Knight said he feels sure of who will be offered that job but a name has not yet been announced.

Panthers Football: The Liberty Panthers start their 2019 season at home facing the Huffman-Hargrave Falcons. In last years match up Liberty beat the Falcons 29-12. The Panthers have 6 offensive and 5 defensive starters back from their 7-5 team last year and reached the playoffs in district 10-4A. The Falcons have 9 offensive and 6 defensive starters back from a 6-6 team from last year. Friday’s game will kick off at 7:30 P.M. at Memorial Stadium in Liberty. Alzheimers Class: According to Research in the U.S. 1 in 10 Americans over 65 have symptoms of Alzheimer’s. Donna Alpers, of Angel’s Care Home Health, a recent guest on the Partyline program, is hosting a 10 week class for caregivers and those diagnosed with the disease. Municipal Golf Course: In 2018 the City of Liberty bought the Magnolia Ridge Country Club, converting it to a public golf course rather than a private club. Chris Jarman, Asst. Liberty City Mgr., said they are trying to bring in someone to reopen and operate the restaurant. He encouraged folks to go see the improved golf course, the new parking and other improvements.
