County Expenditures: As we have reported, Liberty County's upcoming budget projects a revenue increase from $35.2 million to 37.8 million in the upcoming fiscal year. The Road and Bridge Fund for the four county precincts make up a large portion of the annual expenditures for the county. The combined expenditures for the four precincts are budgeted at roughly $9 million dollars. That amount breaks down with Precinct 1, often referred to as the Liberty area of Commissioner Bruce Karbowski proposed expenses of $1.9 million for the upcoming fiscal year. In Road and Bridge #2 of Commissioner Greg Arthur, that department has an expense total of $3.2 million. That precinct covers a large portion of Liberty County. Precinct 3 or the Cleveland area of Commissioner Boo Reeves, that budget is proposed at 1.5 million. And moving on the Dayton area of precinct 4 Leon Wilson, that portion of the county budget is proposed at $2. 4 million dollars.

Saving Energy: Many in our listening area gets power from Entergy Power company. They never stop trying to help during the hot days of summer. Entergy Texas has some of the lowest electric rates in the country. So here’s some great ideas. Set the thermostat to 78 degrees or higher, and use a ceiling fan to feel cooler. Replace air filters and using energy efficient light bulbs for real help. Here are a couple ideas that will help you fast. Ask Entergy for Level Billing – If your power company is Entergy just ask them to help you set up level billing over a 12 month period. That way you will have a consistent bill each month and pay about the same every month.

Labor Day: The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) will be joining law enforcement efforts from across the state to increase traffic enforcement during the Labor Day holiday weekend. From Friday, Aug. 30, through Monday, Sept. 2, DPS Troopers will be looking for drivers who violate traffic laws, including impaired drivers, speeders and safety belt violators. DPS offers drivers the following tips for enhancing safety on our roads during the Labor Day holiday: Do not drink and drive. Make alternate travel plans if you are consuming alcohol. Slow down – especially in bad weather, construction areas, heavy traffic and unfamiliar areas. Eliminate distractions while driving, including the use of mobile devices.
