Prescription Drug Take Back Events: This is an important free service. The Liberty, Dayton and Cleveland police departments are all participating in tomorrow’s free National Take Back Prescription Drug Program. In Liberty, that Take Back event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the Liberty Police Department on Lakeland Drive. Dayton police will be accepting prescriptions from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the police department on State Highway 321. In Cleveland, they will be set up tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cleveland City Hall on Houston Street. These events give area residents the opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding homes of potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. Officials with all three departments say anyone can drop off prescription medications free of charge, no questions asked.

Kidnapping Conviction: A 21-year-old Mexican national, who was living in Liberty at the time of his crime, has been convicted of federal kidnapping charges in the Eastern District of Texas. We reported Juan Carlos Saucedo-Meza was arrested August 25 of last year in Lake Charles, Louisiana, after a woman reported she was kidnapped from Liberty. The unidentified woman was able to escape her captor at a gas station and call 9-1-1 for help. The victim also told police she had been sexually assaulted along the way. The 21-year-old former Liberty resident faces up to life in prison at sentencing. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after completion of a pre-sentence investigation by the U.S. Probation Office.

Measles Vaccination Clinic: The Center for Disease Control is now reporting 695 cases of measles in 22 states. That is the greatest number of cases reported in the U.S. since measles was eliminated in this country back in 2000. With cases of measles on the rise, experts say now is a great time - for those who have never done so - to get a vaccination. With that in mind, there is a free vaccination clinic tomorrow from 8 a.m. to noon at the Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center Rural Health Clinic, 1353 North Travis Street in Liberty. No appointment is necessary. For information, call the clinic at 936-336-9175.
