Joint Fundraisers Successful: Organizers of this past Saturday’s Liberty ISD Education Foundation’s Freedom Ride and the Liberty Rotary Club Chili Cookoff say the fundraising events were a success. Liberty ISD Education Foundation Coordinator Bruce Wright said, despite the weather, the annual bicycle ride did raise money for classroom grants, thanks in part to the great sponsors. Money raised during the Liberty Rotary Chili Cookoff will go toward the club’s scholarships for graduating seniors. As for awards for the top chili, first place went to Frank’s Collision Repair.
Mental Health Class: There is still time to sign up for the Liberty County AgriLife Extension Service Mental Health First Aid Class. The new eight-hour course can teach people how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness along with substance abuse disorders. Liberty County Extension Agent Alexis Cordova is a certified instructor. She said the training provides information on how to respond to someone suffering from depression or anxiety or who may be struggling with substance abuse. Cost for the daylong class is $50 with lunch included. For info, call the extension office at 936-334-3230.
Benefit Concert: The Multi-County Crime Stoppers, of which Liberty County is a part, will sponsor a concert with country music legends Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers. The event is on Saturday, May 4, at 8 p.m. at Conroe’s Crighton Theater. The $69 tickets are available online at
KSHN Easter Egg Hunt: KSHN Radio will host our 36th annual Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday morning at Liberty Municipal Park. The event is free for all kids 9 years old and younger. Scattered about the city park hunt area will be 5,000 plastic Easter eggs with candy inside. There will also be 100 prize eggs, and the kids who find these specially marked eggs can claim their prize right there at the park. In addition, there are three grand prize eggs in the hunt area. This year’s grand prizes include two bicycles with safety helmets. The third grand prize will be an extra nice State Farm Insurance wagon from local agent Victor Barranco. The start signal is this Saturday at 10 a.m. in Liberty Municipal Park, but we recommend arriving earlier. Keep your radio tuned to FM 99.9 for instructions
