Joint Fundraisers Successful: Organizers of this past Saturday’s Liberty ISD Education Foundation’s Freedom Ride and the Liberty Rotary Club Chili Cookoff say the fundraising events were a success. Liberty ISD Education Foundation Coordinator Bruce Wright said, despite the weather, the annual bicycle ride did raise money for classroom grants, thanks in part to the great sponsors. Money raised during the Liberty Rotary Chili Cookoff will go toward the club’s scholarships for graduating seniors. As for awards for the top chili, first place went to Frank’s Collision Repair.

The new eight-hour course can teach people how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness along with substance abuse disorders. Liberty County Extension Agent Alexis Cordova is a certified instructor. She said the training provides information on how to respond to someone suffering from depression or anxiety or who may be struggling with substance abuse. Cost for the daylong class is $50 with lunch included. For info, call the extension office at 936-334-3230.
