Voting Centers: In Liberty County elections, voters cast ballots at their assigned voting precinct on Election Day, but they can generally vote at any early voting location. Nearby Harris County is pushing for a change that would allow voters on Election Day there the option of voting at any polling location in that county. Countywide voting on Election Day is already in use in 52 Texas counties. Liberty County Clerk Lee Haidusek Chambers said Liberty County does not have the technological infrastructure in place now to make voting centers workable in the foreseeable future, although someday it probably will.
Dayton Ole Tyme Days: Make plans to attend and participate in the 27th Annual Dayton Ole Tyme Days festival set for Friday through Sunday, April 12-14, in downtown Dayton. Proceeds go toward scholarships for Dayton High School graduating seniors. There will be live entertainment, carnival rides, arts and crafts vendors, and lots of food. For information and contact numbers for all the events, go to the Dayton Ole Tyme Days website - link there from the top of our homepage at
Bridgehaven: Bridgehaven Children’s Advocacy Center works to minimize trauma to children who are involved in a child abuse investigation in Liberty and Chambers counties. This is done primarily through forensic interviews with child victims so the number of times the kids need to relive the abuse is limited, usually to a single interview. However, Bridgehaven offers more services. Bridgehaven Outreach Coordinator Megan Croker said the organization also offers counseling to kids and presents programs on a number of child related issues to schools, service organizations and churches - all free of charge. To learn more or schedule a presentation, call Bridgehaven at 936-258-0400.
LHS Pep Rally: There is a community pep-rally for Liberty High School Spring sports tomorrow at 6:45 p.m. at the Liberty Municipal Park Pavilion. Those sports participating will be girls’ and boys’ soccer and track teams plus baseball and softball.
Obituaries: Brunce “Papa Wayne” Alpers, 64, of Batson. Service noon today at Roadside Memorial Baptist of Saratoga (F&F). Elmer V. “Blue” Peckinpaugh, 76, of Liberty (AFS). Celebration of life 2 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Elks Lodge.
