Jet Crash News: All three bodies recovered from the Trinity Bay crash site of a Boeing 767 cargo jet have now been indentified. Late Saturday, Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne said the body recovered last Tuesday has now been officially identified as the pilot – 60-year-old Ricky Blakely. We already reported the other two recovered bodies were identified as First Officer Conrad Aska, age 44, and a jump-seat rider, 36-year-old Sean Archuleta. In a related matter, officials are asking property owners and boaters in the Trinity Bay and Galveston Bay complex to be on the look out for floating wreckage and cargo from the crash of Flight 3591. Items can be taken via land to Chambers County Emergency Management, 202 Airport Road in Anahuac, or the Beach City Volunteer Fire Department, 12717 FM 2354 in Beach City. Boaters can take items via water to Job Beason Park in Oak Island or what is known as the NRG Spillway dock. If you have any questions regarding Flight 3591 wreckage and cargo collection, call 409-267-3060.
Daylight Savings Time: It’s nearly that time of year again – Sunday at 2 a.m. marks the return to Daylight Savings Time. That’s when clocks and watches that don’t automatically adjust will need to be set forward or ahead one hour. Better yet, just set your clocks ahead one hour before going to bed Saturday night. Also, experts agree it’s a good time to change batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Boys BB State Tourney: The East Chambers Buccaneers boys’ basketball team has punched their ticket to the Class 3A state tourney. The Buccaneers will play their state semifinal game against Brock on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The winner advances to face Dallas Madison or San Antonio Cole on Saturday at 10 a.m., also at the Alamodome.
Girls State Basketball: In this past Saturday’s Class 4A girls’ basketball state title game, the Argyle Lady Eagles topped the Hardin-Jefferson Lady Hawks 49-41. It is the fifth state championship in a row for Argyle. The Hardin-Jefferson girls finished their outstanding season with a 35-5 overall record.
Obituaries: Ruby Katherine “Kitty” Hawkes, 89, of Dayton. Service is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pace-Stancil FH.
