DISD Board Candidate Filings: Add another name to the list of candidates who have filed to run for the Dayton school board in the May 4 election. Barry Pruitt signed up Friday for Position 2 on the Dayton ISD Board of Trustees. That brings the number of candidates for that position to three. Mark Richter and Chris Shumaker are also running for that school board seat, currently held by longtime incumbent Larry Wadzeck who has decided not to seek another term. Luke Chachere remains the only candidate to date for his Dayton school board Position 1. Candidate filing continues through this Friday.
Babin on Immigration: Congressman Brian Babin said immigration reform is the biggest issue facing the nation at this time. Rep. Babin said he has visited the Southern border three times in recent weeks to see the problem first-hand. He claims border fencing works, citing what he says has been a 95 percent reduction in illegal crossings as well as drug and human trafficking in the San Diego area following the installation of barrier protection there. With that in mind, Rep. Babin is hopeful Congress will come up with a compromise bill that includes funding for more border fencing. If not, the local representative in the nation’s capital said he will understand if President Trump declares a national emergency to get it done.
New Saturday Program: After a number of requests from listeners, we have arrived at an agreement with a successful broadcaster from the Beaumont-Port Arthur area. Lloyd Jones Jr begins hosting a program each Saturday starting this coming weekend. He will replace the legendary Crown Prince, who most know retired several months ago. Lloyd Jones Jr - or LJ as he will be known on the air here at KSHN - will call his program “The Saturday Afternoon Affair”. He joins us this Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. featuring rhythm and blues mixed with zydeco. You can listen on KSHN FM 99.9, on the worldwide web at or on smart phones with the free Tune-In Radio app.
Girls BB Playoffs: The girls’ high school basketball playoffs begin today. Among the local teams advancing are Dayton, Hardin, Barbers Hill, Tarkington, Hardin-Jefferson, Hull-Daisetta and East Chambers. Most of those squads play today at neutral sites while the Barbers Hill girls are in action tomorrow.
