Liberty Special Election: The candidate filing period for the Liberty City Council Special Election started Wednesday, and so far, only one person has filed to run for that vacant city council seat. William Neal Thornton is an official candidate to fill the unexpired term of Paul Glazener who resigned. Mr. Thornton was one of 10 people who turned in applications for a possible appointment to that council seat. While those 10 citizens answered the Liberty council’s call for applicants, council members chose instead to call a special election. CISD Seeks New AD: The Cleveland Independent School District is seeking a new athletic director and head football coach. Keith Hendrix stepped down from that position Monday. However, Coach Hendrix continues to work for the district in other capacities. In the meantime, Coach Norris Taff is serving as interim athletic director. He is a Cleveland High School graduate with 34 years experience in education and coaching.
Four Weddings: Four local young ladies will be featured on the TLC television show called Four Weddings tomorrow night. The episode features LaTosha LaFleur Oliver, Diamond White Johnson, Noemi Guerrero Perez and Whitney Abshier Smith. All four of these local brides got married in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. TLC’s website says, when it comes to weddings, every bride thinks her big day is the best. But what if four brides are guests at each other’s weddings and then judge which one really is the best? The stakes are high as the winning bride and groom are whisked away on a dream honeymoon. The episode is set to air tomorrow at 8 p.m. our time on the TLC network.
DISD Wall of Fame: Nominations are being accepted for the Dayton ISD “Wall of Fame”. The deadline for nominating a former professional employee of the Dayton school district to be included on the “Wall of Fame” is February 1. Established in 1999, the “Wall of Fame” salutes special educators who have contributed mightily to the education of youth in the district.
