TIRZ: In order to set up a funding mechanism for development at the Gulf Inland Logistics Park in Dayton, the city and Liberty County created what is called a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone. We have aired several reports on the Dayton TIRZ. but there may still be some misunderstanding about what a TIRZ is and how it works. Speaking to the Dayton Rotary Club, Dayton City Attorney Brandon Davis said the TIRZ is a way to reimburse a developer for building costly infrastructure improvements to their property. He said, unlike other methods of paying for infrastructure, the TIRZ only affects the ad valorem taxes of the property inside the zone itself.
Ag Finance Seminar: The 52nd Annual Ag Finance Seminar is tomorrow from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the Winnie-Stowell Community Building in Winnie Park. Topics include rice and beef market outlooks as well as information on the new farm bill and how it will impact operations. For info, call the Jefferson County AgriLife Extension Service during business hours at 409-835-8461 or the Liberty County office at 936-334-3230.
