Dangerous Heat: The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for all of Southeast Texas in effect from noon to 9 p.m. today. With temperatures expected between 99 to 104 degrees and Heat Index values between 103 to 111, this is a dangerous situation. Experts advise to take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle not even for a minute. Check on elderly and infirmed relatives and neighbors to insure they have adequate cooling and fluid intake. Pets can get dehydrated quickly, so give them plenty of fresh, clean water when it’s hot or humid outdoors. Make sure your pets have a shady place to get out of the sun, be careful not to over-exercise them, and keep them indoors when it’s extremely hot. When the temperature is very high, don’t let your dog linger on hot asphalt. Being so close to the ground, your pooch’s body can heat up quickly, and sensitive paw pads can burn.
Dayton and the H-GAC: The Houston Galveston Area Council is a voluntary council of local governments that provides information and resources to its members. Most often referred to as the H-GAC, the organization covers a 13 county area of Southeast Texas of which Liberty County is a part. Dayton City Manager Theo Melancon said for various reasons, the city of Dayton has not historically been much involved with the H-GAC. Mr. Melancon said he and other Dayton Officials are currently working to change that and strengthen the city’s relationship with H-GAC.
LISD Student Registration: All returning Liberty ISD kids can complete online registration through Family Access on the LISD web site Monday July 30th through Friday August 10th. Students will not receive their class schedule or homeroom assignment until on line registration is completed. That is for students who attended Liberty ISD last year and who plan to attend this coming school year. New student registration in the Liberty ISD for all grades will be held at San Jacinto Elementary, 1629 Grand Avenue on July 30th and 31st from noon to 8 p.m. For more information on returning and new student registration at the Liberty ISD, link to the school district web site from or call 936 336 7213.
