Certified Property Values: The Liberty County Central Appraisal District has released its 2018 Certified Taxable Property Values. According to Chief Appraiser Lana McCarty, the total taxable value for all properties countywide is now slightly more than six billion dollars. That’s up 6.11 percent from last year. Mrs. McCarty said land values are up 6.27 percent in Liberty County while improvements increased 2.99 percent. Industrial values rose 6.75 percent countywide. On the other hand, she said mineral values dropped 1.92 percent across Liberty County and personal property values fell 4.34 percent. Of note, this year’s $6 billion value is up 36.8 percent from five years ago when the 2013 property values for all of Liberty County were certified at $4.385 billion.
Refuge Hunts: The application period for hunting opportunities this year on the Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge begins on August 6 and continues through September 1. Permits for the various hunting seasons on the Trinity River Refuge are selected by lottery drawing. That drawing will be September 10. Due to the damaged access road that has prompted the closure of the Champion Lake Public Use Area, there will be no waterfowl hunting on the refuge this year. For more information, visit the Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge website. Link there from or call 936-336-9786.
DISD New Teacher Luncheon: The July and August Dayton Chamber of Commerce’s monthly luncheons will be combined and held in conjunction with the Dayton ISD New Teacher Luncheon. It all takes place Tuesday, July 31, in the Dayton Community Center. The speaker will once again be Dayton ISD Superintendent Dr. Jessica Johnson. The $15 meal will be catered by Marsala’s Italian Grill. For those who want to sponsor a new teacher’s meal, that can be done for $10. The Dayton Chamber is looking for meal sponsors and donated items to include in the gift bags for the new teachers. For information or reservations, call the Dayton Chamber at 936-257-2393.
Purse Bingo: Bridgehaven Children’s Advocacy Center is still seeking sponsors for its Purse Bingo fundraiser next Friday and Saturday, July 20 and 21, at the Dayton Community Center. For information, call Bridgehaven at 936-258-0400.
