City and School Board: The candidate filing period for the May 5th city and school district elections continues through Friday February 16th. Liberty Council members with expiring terms are Mayor Carl Pickett and Council members David Arnold, Paul Glazener and Louie Potetz. Carl Pickett and David Arnold filed to run for new council terms on Wednesday. Paul Glazener said he will definitely be seeking a new two year term. Louie Potetz said he has not yet decided. So far, no has filed to run for the Liberty School Board. In Dayton, three positions on the city council are up for election, Josh Townsend at Position #1, Sherial Lawson at Position #2 and Alvin Burris at Position #3. Indications are all three Dayton City Council will file for new terms, though none have filed yet.
Rotary: The Dayton Rotary Club voted yesterday to donate $7,000 to two local families devastated by hurricane Harvey. A third family will benefit from a $5,500 donation from the Oswego, Illinois Rotary Club.
Health Fair: The Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center 1353 N. Travis in Liberty is hosting the free Annual Men’s Health Fair this Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. No pre-registration is necessary. LIfeshare will have a blood donor coach at the Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center on Saturday from 8 to noon in conjunction with the Annual Men’s Health Fair. Ribbon Cuttings: The Dayton school district is inviting the community to two grand opening celebrations tomorrow. The first is at the DISD Support Service Center, 702 South Cleveland Street. It starts with a ribbon cutting at 9:30 a.m. Also tomorrow, there’s a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. at the Dayton ISD Sports Hall of Fame, 302 South Cleveland Street, overlooking Bronco Stadium. Everyone is invited to both of those events.
