Fatality Accident: A Liberty man died Tuesday morning when the 18-wheel tractor-trailer rig he was driving smashed into a bridge on I-45 and caught fire near Huntsville. Michael Bird, 56, was pronounced dead shortly after the accident by a Walker County justice of the peace. According to a DPS report, Bird's 18-wheeler had a blowout on the right front tire. That caused the truck to veer off the roadway, striking a guardrail and then a concrete bridge column.

Liberty Budget: Liberty City Council met Tuesday, adopting a $34.58 million budget for fiscal year 2014-15. They also set a corresponding tax rate of 59 cents per $100 in property valuation. That tax rate is unchanged from the current budget.

City Park Party: The community is invited to the 16thAnnual City Park Party this Saturday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Liberty Municipal Park. The Rev. Delmar Lee Coward Jr. said the day's events are free, a gift from Vision Ministry and Cornerstone Church of Liberty. He said there will be plenty of food, hourly prizes and lots of activities for all ages, including a moonwalk for children. Saturday's event also includes live music from a variety of groups. Baby Parade: The 2014 Trinity Valley Exposition Baby Parade is set for Saturday, October 11, at 10 a.m. in downtown Liberty. Entries are now being accepted. Children ages infant through kindergarten are eligible to enter the parade. This year's theme is "Little Buckaroos' Rodeo Event".
