New Police Station: It’s been since Hurricane Ike rolled through Southeast Texas in 2008, but the new $2.6 million Liberty Police Department building is very near completion. The old P.D. downtown was destroyed by Ike and modular buildings have served the purpose since then. City of Liberty Director Tom Warner said furniture is being delivered, and the dispatch department should move in this weekend, with the officers and other staff set to occupy the new building next week. Tom Warner said it is state of the art with all of the now required security protocol in place to ensure the safety of officers, staff and evidence. The Liberty Police Department Project cost $2.6 million. $1.1 million was provided by federal grant funds, mostly hurricane recovery money. An open house is set for Saturday, September 20th, starting at 10 a.m. More details on that open house event as the date draws closer.
Lost Arts Club: The Lost Arts Club meets every Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Liberty Municipal Library, and new members are always welcome.
