School Enrollment: In Liberty ISD, enrollment during the first week of classes was 2,065, up 28 students from the same time last year. Dayton ISD has 5,057 students, up 81. Turning to Hardin ISD, administrators there report Tuesday's total was 1,324. That's an increase of 31 students. In Devers ISD, the total head count is 178 kids, pre-k through 8thgrade. That's unchanged from the start of the previous school year. Cleveland ISD has the second greatest numerical increase in enrollment. Tuesday there were 3, 614 students, a jump of 72. Tarkington ISD also reports an increase. There, registration was 1,860, up 10 from week one last year. Hull-Daisetta however, was the only county school district to see a decrease. In Hull-Daisetta, there were 495 registered on Tuesday, down 19 compared to last year.


Daisetta Burglary: Two suspects, Spencer Lee Curtis Moss, 18 of Cleveland and Jacobe Dehvin Israel Fleetwood, 17 of Daisetta, are in jail in connection with two incidents of break-ins and vandalism in Daisetta. Chief Mike Parrish said the two are suspects in burglaries Tuesday August 19 at the Hull Daisetta High School and the Daisetta Pentecostal Church. The high school break-in resulted in several stolen items, plus acts of vandalism. Around 7 p.m. the same day, the break-in at the Pentecostal church was reported. The suspects were not successful in attempting to get into the church, but did do damage to the exterior door in the office. Both Moss and Fleetwood are being held on bail amounting to $11,500. A third suspect, a 14-year-old has not yet been charged.


Labor Day Closings: All municipal offices in Cleveland, Dayton and Liberty will be closed Monday for the Labor Day holiday. Banks and post offices are also closed, as is the Liberty County Courthouse. Waste Management Garbage Service will not run in Liberty, Dayton or Cleveland.


Football: The University of Texas Longhorns open their new season this Saturday as they host the University of North Texas with a kick off at 7 p.m. It's All Nine Sports first Longhorns game this season. Airtime is 6 p.m. here on KSHN.


Obituaries: James Louis Cook, 63 of Liberty. Service is Saturday at 11 a.m. at Turkey Creek Baptist Church of Liberty.
