Police Station: The new Liberty police station on Lakeland Dr. is nearly complete. In 2008, Hurricane Ike destroyed the Liberty Police Department building, then at the corner of Sam Houston and San Jacinto Streets. Since then Liberty PD has been housed in a modular building behind the fire department. The price tag for the new, 10,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility is about $2.6 million with $1 million provided by a grant. Liberty City Manager Gary Broz said, if all goes well, police should be in their new facility by month's end.

Members of the recently graduated class of the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association, all of whom are unpaid volunteers, will be patrolling the county neighborhoods in a vehicle clearly marked as a "Citizen on Patrol" Sheriff's unit. These members can be identified by their bright blue polo shirts with the Sheriff's and D.A. gold star badge logo on the left chest and "Liberty County Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association" in white letters on the back. These individuals will also carry a Sheriff Department issued Identification card with their name and photo on it.
