HDISD Property Values: Liberty County Chief Appraiser Alan D. Conner said property values in the Hull-Daisetta school district are down due to a drop in industrial values, mostly at the ExxonMobil storage facility. The chief appraiser said Hull-Daisetta ISD is the only school district in Liberty County to see a decline in values. With a total taxable value of $254.5 million, Hull-Daisetta ISD experienced an overall drop of 2.79 percent from last year. Comparing the 2014 certified values to recent years, it's the third lowest total value in the district since 2006.

West Nile: During the months ahead, Texas Department of Health Services officials are urging special precautions to reduce the risk of contacting the mosquito-borne West Nile Virus. So far this year, there have been 15 human cases of West Nile documented in Texas, including one here in Liberty County. When going outdoors, experts recommend using insect repellant with DEET as well as wearing long sleeves and pants at dusk and dawn. Other simple tips include draining standing water on your property plus keeping screens on doors and windows. To find out more, visit the state's website at www.txwestnile.org.
