Border Crossing: State Representative John Otto said in addition to the flood of immigrant children flooding cross the Mexican border, 10’s of thousands of adults are also making the illegal crossing. According to figures collected by the Texas Department of Public Safety, more than 196,000 adults have been apprehended crossing the border illegally this year alone.  Since 2011, the number of adults caught attempting to illegally cross into the United States tops 700,000. 


DaytonValero: Construction is well underway on the soon-to-be rebuilt Valero Gas Station and Convenience Store on Hwy 321 at FM 1960 in Dayton. Dayton City Manager David Douglas said the new store will have more gas pumps and carry more convenience store items. Originally planned as a large truck stop style store, the company is now building a smaller than originally planned Valero store.


4-H Horse Clinic: The expanded Liberty County 4-H Drill Team and horse project two day Horsemanship Clinic is this coming weekend. The free project features clinician Gil Stoner of Uvalde. The clinic this Saturday is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Stancil Park arena in Cleveland. Then, it continues this Sunday from 9 to 4 at the TVE Arena on FM 563 in Liberty. Participants will need a horse with a current negative coggins. Those without a horse are welcome to observe. LES Grant: The Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has awarded a $5,000 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant to LibertyElementary School.  In partnership with LangeTree DUCKFARM  the grant will be used to teach Prairie View A & M Cooperative Extension’s Teaching Agricultural Sustainability Through Economics (T.A.S.T.E) entrepreneurship/gardening program.  The T.A.S.T.E  program teaches youth, families, and senior citizens the value of growing crops for better nutrition, improved health, business development planning, and utilization of mother earth’s resources to increase income.
