Top Taxpayers: We reported yesterday the Liberty County Central Appraisal District has released its 2014 Certified Taxable Property Values. According to Chief Appraiser Alan D. Conner, a new addition to the list of top 10 taxpayers countywide is the newly completed TransCanada Keystone Pipeline coming in at #7. Three of the top 10 taxpayers in Liberty County are businesses with inventory stored at the CMC Railyard, including #1 on the list - Exxon Chemical Americas. Boomerang Tube in Liberty is now the second largest taxpayer.

CountyClinic: The Liberty County Health Clinic in the Dayton Shopping Center is part of the county's effort to lower health care costs by offering county employees access to primary and preventative care through a contract with what's known as the ATC Care Clinic. Under a contract with ATC, the county pays $65 per month, per employee for coverage. That allows the county's 353 employees and their families to use the clinic free. Now, that clinic closed its doors on Monday. Liberty County Auditor Harold Seay said the company that operates the clinic for the county, Care ATC - based in Oklahoma, has failed to hire a physician required under their agreement with the county. That would then risk the medical license of those who were working in the clinic. Liberty County officials are said to be meeting with ATC to see what the next step will be.

Open Carry: The Liberty County Open Carry Chapter has scheduled an Open Carry Walk for tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Liberty. Kristina Perry of Dayton, founder of the Liberty County Chapter, said, the walk will go from Brookshire Brothers parking lot on Jefferson Dr. to the courthouse and back again. Ms. Perry confirmed chapter members will be carrying rifles and shotguns, which can be carried in public under Texas law.

GregHaymanEducationCenter: August 4th, the Dayton School District will officially rename the old library building at the corner of Cleveland and Houston Streets, the Greg Hayman Education Center. Superintendent Dr. Jessica Johnson said the reception and formal ceremony is a chance to honor Greg Hayman's 29 years of service to the school district. The dedication ceremony and reception will be Monday Aug. 4th, from 4 to 6 p.m. The entire community is invited.
