Water Park Accident: A 34-year-old Huntsville man died at Memorial Hermann Hospital hours after he was found floating on the water unresponsive at Nine Mile Ranch Water Park on C.R. 650 near Kenefick. Liberty County Sheriff's Captain Ken DeFoor said deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call shortly after 1 p.m. Saturday. Liberty County emergency medical personnel performed CPR and reportedly had a good pulse and blood pressure when Timothy Desmond Hodges was loaded onto a Life Flight air ambulance. However, Sheriff's Captain DeFoor reports the Huntsville man died at Memorial Hermann Hospital a couple of hours later.

Hazardous Materials: Authorities responded to a potentially explosive situation Friday afternoon along U.S. 59 north of Cleveland. A Fed Ex truck carrying a chemical called 'liquid peroxide' lost its refrigeration to cool the cargo. That chemical can become volatile if it overheats. At the time, temperatures were in the mid-90s with the heat index at 100 degrees. Liberty County officials closed down both the north and southbound lanes of U.S. 59 and evacuated a small number of nearby businesses. Just before 6 p.m. Friday, another Fed Ex truck with a working refrigeration unit arrived, and the chemical was safely transferred.

Chamber Lunch: The Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce's monthly noon luncheon is this Wednesday at the Liberty Center in City Hall. This month's program will feature State Rep. John Otto of Dayton. He was recently appointed to a special House committee to study the fiscal impact of the current flood of undocumented immigrants from across the boarder. The $10 lunch will be catered by Mike's BBQ, Catfish and Steaks. Make reservations by calling the Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber at 936-336-5736.

Refuge Fun: Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge is hosting a 'Moth Night Out' event this Saturday at 9 p.m. at the refuge office on FM 1011. Refuge Manager Stuart Marcus said, since the refuge opened its new office in March 2012, more than 500 species of moths have been documented around the building's security lights. All ages are welcome. For more information, call the refuge at 936-336-9786.
