Hurricane Season: As the height of hurricane season draws near, experts are urging residents not to be lulled into a false sense of security by the lack of tropical storm activity in the Gulf of Mexico. So far, there haven’t been any named tropical storms in the Atlantic Basin. However, the historical peak of the season is from mid-August to late October. For the six-month hurricane season that runs through November 30, NOAA’s experts say there is a 70% likelihood of 8 to 13 named storms. Remember – the best time to prepare a survival and evacuation kit is now, not when a hurricane is barreling down on the gulf.
