Near Drowning: A 2-year-old Liberty County child is at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston after nearly drowning in the family's above-ground pool Sunday. The little boy's condition is, at last report, undetermined, but information indicates he is holding on. Sheriff's Captain Ken DeFoor said the incident occurred at a family gathering on C.R. 605 near Dayton. Witnesses told sheriff's investigators they had been swimming, and when everyone left the above-ground pool, they reportedly removed an access ladder. The child's parents say their small child somehow managed to get into the pool without being seen and was found underwater. The investigation is ongoing, and Capt. DeFoor said the focus of that investigation is how the child managed to get into the raised pool -  47 inches high - without a ladder.
