Fatality Wreck: A two vehicle wreck Thursday afternoon on Hwy 321 at FM 686 in Dayton claimed the life of one man. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 13 year old Dayton girl was driving, without anyone else in the vehicle, when she struck a car driven by George Bennett, 68 of Dayton. The impact caused Mr. Bennett to flip over in the road. Reports say Mr. Bennett was not wearing a seatbelt and he was pronounced dead at the crash scene. The accident is still under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.


D-Day Parade: Tomorrow, starting with a wreath laying ceremony at 9 a.m. at the memorial at Liberty’s Memorial Stadium, the first countywide parade saluting WWII Veterans will be held in Liberty. The parade begins at 10 a.m. at the stadium parking lot, heading east on Grand Ave. before turning south on Main. From there they will go to Sam Houston St., turning east and then finally back north on Austin St. to go back to the stadium. The public is urged to attend and line the streets to show support for these veterans. In addition, children from across the area are invited to participate. Liberty ISD Superintendent Dr. Cody Abshier invites those interested to show up with a bicycle tomorrow morning beginning at 8:45. There will be supplies on hand to help decorate the bicycles.


Bicyclist Identified: Cleveland police have now identified the victim of a hit and run as 55-year-old Clara Hightower Baines of Cleveland. Ms. Baines was riding a bicycle Saturday morning around 4 a.m. on FM 2025 when she was struck and killed by an unknown motorist. Cleveland Police Capt. Scott Felts said the vehicle is believed to be dark in color, possibly maroon. Cleveland police are asking anyone who saw that fatal hit-and-run accident or has any information to call the Cleveland police at 281 592 2622 or the anonymous tip line at 281 592 0800.
