DaytonElection: According to Dayton City Manager David Douglas, the Texas Secretary of State's Office, the final authority on state elections, has directed the city of Daytonto go ahead with the canvassing of the votes from the May 10thelection, and then, swear in those incumbents reelected to Dayton City Council. The burden of contesting the election now falls to candidate Troy Barton. He has 30 days to contest the results in district court. The Secretary of State's Office informed Dayton Officials that is the appropriate process for determining if errors made in the election impacted the outcome.


Pony Update: The court hearing to determine ownership of the Shetland pony severely injured when dragged behind a pick-up truck was held Tuesday in Pct. 4 Justice Of The Peace Judge Barry Graves' court. Last week, a Shetland pony was taken from his owner, Francisco Cruz, after law enforcement found the man had dragged the small animal behind a pick up and beat him with a belt buckle. The owner, Cruz, voluntarily gave up ownership of the Shetland pony to the Houston SPCA. They will continue the medical treatment for the animal to recover from his injuries. Cruz waived all rights to appeal clearing the way for Judge Graves to grant ownership to the SPCA and require Cruz to pay for all medical expenses for the pony. Cruz is awaiting trial on a felony charge of animal cruelty.


Lions Scholarships: The Liberty Lions Club has awarded 8 LibertyHigh Schoolgraduating seniors scholarships totaling $25,000. Four of those are for $5,000 each. Those were awarded to Stephanie Lopez, Cristina Padron, Lauren Revia and Madison Cook. Four more received $1,250 scholarships - Christian Pate, Madison Regian, Sarah Herrington and Luke Mangum.


Summer Reading: Believe it or not, three weeks from tomorrow is the last day of school. Library Director Dana Abshier said they are gearing up for their annual summer reading program. June 16this day one for Liberty's Summer Reading and Dana Abshier said they have some super entertainment lined up for each Thursday. Those who would like to have their kids in summer reading will need a Liberty Library Card. There is no cost for the card, that's available to any Texas resident, not just those in the City of Liberty. To learn more, call the Library at (936) 336 8901.
