Shooting Death: Liberty County Sheriffs Department is investigating a Wednesday night shooting death. Sheriffs Capt. Ken DeFoor said deputies responded to a shooting on C.R. 175 near Raywood. There, they found Spencer Allen Sharp, 29, critically wounded from a 12-guage shotgun blast to the upper torso. Sharp was transported by Liberty County EMS to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont where he died early yesterday morning. Sheriffs detectives interviewed the shooter, David Earl Mitchell, 39. He told investigators that the victim showed up at his home arguing over money. Mitchell claims the victim tried to pull a handgun. Thats when Mitchell says he shot Spencer Sharp. Investigators have been unable to locate the handgun Sharp is alleged to have had when he was shot. An autopsy was ordered, and the investigation is ongoing.

Police Seek Help: Liberty police are asking for the publics help locating a man going to area homes and possibly businesses in an attempt to upgrade their current alarm or to sell them a new alarm system. As a reminder, the City of Liberty requires solicitors to have a city-issued permit to make sales calls. Anyone with info is asked to call Liberty PD at 336-5666.

Prank Gone Bad: An incident described as a hoax prompted some concerns in the Dayton school district yesterday. DISD Superintendent Dr. Jessica Johnson said an inappropriate message written on a bathroom wall at the high school launched rumors of a threat. An investigation by school officials determined the graffiti was intended as a prank by the students responsible. Those kids now face disciplinary action.

Food Drive: Post offices across Liberty Co. are participating in the National Letter Carriers 22ndAnnual Stamp Out Hunger food drive. Postal carriers are asking area residents to place non-perishable food items in or by their mailboxes. Your carrier will collect that food tomorrow and take it back to the post office. Items can also be left at any post office in Liberty County. From there, the food will be given to the Food Pantry in Dayton, Spirit of Sharing in Liberty and Operation Refuge in Cleveland.
