Indictment: In December, 43-year-old Melba Jean Campbell of Hankamer was killed in a traffic accident on Hwy 90 at the 146 Bypass in Liberty. Now, a Liberty County Grand Jury has indicted Javier Marcos Garcia, 26 of Mexico City, for criminally negligent homicide. According to Liberty Police, Garcia was operating a westbound grease truck when he allegedly ran the red light at the Hwy 90/146 intersection and struck the vehicle driven by Ms. Campbell. Records indicate he remains in the Liberty County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.

Mayhaw Festival: The 32ndannual Hull Daisetta Mayhaw Festival is under way and continues through Saturday with plenty of activities centering around the area's Mayhaw berry. The family festival supports local students scholarships and non-profit groups. Events include a parade on Saturday, volleyball, Mayhaw jelly contest, and a street dance Saturday night at 8 p.m. Details are available at the Hull Daisetta Mayhaw Festival website. Nesler Indicted: James Nesler, 61, of the Dayton area, has been indicted on the charge of murder in the shooting death of his son. In January, James Nesler told investigators an argument between himself and his 26-year-old son, J.A. Nesler, led to his shooting his son in the chest, killing him. Nesler told investigators he intended to fire the weapon as a warning. At last report, James Nesler was free on bond awaiting trial.

Softball: Today the Liberty Lady Panthers take on the Booker T. Washington Lady Golden Eagles in bi-district action. This one-and-done play-off game starts at 6 p.m. KSHN Radio will broadcast the game starting with a pre-game about 5:50 p.m. Then tomorrow night, the Dayton Lady Broncos will be in game 2 of their best-of-three series against the Montgomery Lady Bears, also at 6 p.m. We will broadcast the Dayton game, starting with the pre-game at 5:50 p.m.
