Sex Offender Facility: An attempt to locate some of the state's most violent sex offenders to a secretly planned facility in Liberty County appears to be on hold. That's because the company awarded the management contract was unable to acquire the 10-acre site on FM 1960 west of Dayton where the facility was to be located. The contract was awarded by the State of Texas to a company called GMV & Associates; however, that was done without notifying the public or local officials, including State Sen. Robert Nichols, State Rep. John Otto or Liberty County Judge Crag McNair. The Liberty County judge said a facility for violent sex offenders is not the kind of economic development the county needs. Rep. Otto said it's his understanding, at this time, the management contract between the state and GMV and Associates may no longer be valid because the company was unable to acquire the land.

Hospital Clinic: The Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center's Saturday clinic is tomorrow. Chief Nursing Officer Cindy Griffin said the clinic is for more basic medical care that does not really require an emergency room visit. Tracy Allen is the nurse practitioner for the clinic. For information or an appointment, call (936) 336 7316, ext 130.

Closed: City offices in Cleveland, Dayton and Liberty as well as Liberty County offices will be closed today in observance of the Good Friday holiday. Banks, post offices and Waste Management garbage service will operate normally.

SunriseServices: The Liberty Ministerial Alliance will hold an Easter Sunrise Service at Liberty City Park under the basketball pavilion Sunday morning starting at 6:30. Sterling Funeral Home and Dayton Ministerial Alliance will have their Easter Sunrise Service at 7 a.m. at Palms Memorial Park. Everyone is invited to either event. Bring a lawn chair.

Obituaries: Arthur Leroy "Art" McCullough, 82 of Liberty. Service tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Liberty. Marcus Booker, 41 formerly of Hardin. Service tomorrow 11 a.m. at Olive Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Hardin. Vetta Jackson, 64 of Double Bayou. Service 1 p.m. tomorrow in First Missionary Baptist Church of Anahuac.
