Daniels Scholarship: The First Liberty National Bank, as Trustee of the Paul Daniels Scholarship Trust, announces the awarding of $81,800 in scholarships for the calendar year 2014. These four scholarships are for $20,450 each and will be funded at the rate of $5,112.50 per year for four years. This years recipients are Lauren Brooke Godwin, Hull-Daisetta High School, Steven Luis Ibarra, Hardin High School senior, Lauren Nicole Revia, Liberty High School and Stephen Michael Sudduth, Dayton High School - all graduating seniors. This years scholarships increases that amount to $673,600 awarded to a total of 49 young people from SouthLibertyCounty.

Fire: A fire late Friday night claimed the life of 66-year-old Robert Williams. The Liberty County Sheriffs Department reports the fire was at the man's home on CR 6035 west of Dayton. Cause of death is believed to be smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

LISD Upgrade: Liberty school trustees continue to look at ways to replace aging equipment and make cost-saving energy upgrades at Liberty High School and the administration/co-op building. During Tuesday night's meeting, the LISD board heard from energy consultant, David Day with MDP Consulting Engineers of Anahuac. The engineering consultant told trustees they would be able to pay for suggested upgrades over time with energy savings and reduction in maintenance costs. The board took no action but did request a similar study of LES.

DISD: During their Tuesday night meeting, the Dayton school board approved an increase in the cost of school lunches. The current price for student lunches is $1.95. The approved increase will raise that price to $2.05. The cost of a student breakfast will also increase by $.10. In a related action, the board approved a new 1 year extension with Chartwell's, the company that has been operating the Dayton school cafeterias for the past 2 years.

Obituaries: Yvonne Dickerson, 59 of Hull. Graveside service 10 a.m. tomorrow at Moss Hill Cemetery. Wanda Evelyn Pittman, 82 formerly of Hardin and Liberty. Memorial Service tomorrow 2 p.m. in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Liberty.
