Former Teacher Sentenced: A former Liberty High School teacher has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for having sexual contact with one of her students. Valerie Celeste Moore, 29, pleaded guilty to Indecency with a Child by Exposure. On Wednesday afternoon, a jury in the 75thDistrict Court of Mark Morefield sentenced Moore to 10 years in prison and a $2,500 fine. Additionally, the jury asked that the sentences not be probated.


Hamshire-Fannett Collections: Grace Community Church in Fannett is collecting donations for much-needed supplies to replace those supplies lost in the early Tuesday morning fire at Hamshire-Fannett Elementary School. Pastor Michael Parise said those interested are asked to donate supplies for the school office, elementary students and the nurse’s office. They also are accepting gift cards to Wal-Mart, Sams, Office Depot or any place that sells school supplies. The church is on Burrell-Wingate Rd. in Fannett. If it’s more convenient, items can be dropped off in Liberty County at the KSHN Studies, 2099 Sam Houston St. in Liberty. For more information, call the church office at (409) 794-2770.


LeeCollege: The Workforce and Community Development Center at Lee College in Baytown will offer a two-part logistics program in Liberty. The first information session will be held Monday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at FLNB Corner on Sam Houston at Travis Street in Liberty. Military veterans are encouraged to attend and may qualify for the logistics course at no charge through the College Credit for Heroes Grant.
