HardinSchoolBoard: Following a public hearing Tuesday night, Hardin school trustees voted to table the petition from property owners to detach a portion of Hardin ISD for annexation into the Liberty school district. That means Hardin trustees neither accepted nor rejected that petition. The area proposed for annexation has, for decades, been inside the city limits of Liberty but also part of the Hardin school district. As defined, that includes the Featherstone and Raven Hill Ranch subdivisions and McGuire Road area. During the meeting, Jerry Ursprung, third generation member for the Hardin ISD Board, who is also a resident of the Featherstone Subdivision, said he opposed the petition, pointing out that the overall tax base in the Liberty school district is more than triple that of Hardin ISD. Hardin Superintendent Bob Parker said the item will appear during next Monday’ school board meeting.

The first was to certify that candidates in the election are unopposed, and secondly, the board formally voted to cancel the election. That will save the school district somewhere around $6 to $8,000.
