Voter ID: As widely reported, state law requires a photo ID in order to vote in person. Liberty County Clerk Paulette Williams said to date, that recent addition to Texas voting law is not causing problems in early voting. Those who do not have a photo ID are able to cast, what is called, a provisional vote. That ballot will be counted once the voter’s identity and voting registration is confirmed. For more information on voter identification, contact the Liberty County Tax Collectors/Voter Registrars Office at (936) 336-4629.  Today is the last day for early voting in the March 4thPrimary Election.


Relay for Life: The 2014 South Liberty County Relay for Life, benefiting the American Cancer Society is still about a month away, but the time for relay teams to sign up is now. This year’s Relay for Life is Friday April 4ththrough Saturday morning April 5that Liberty’s Memorial Stadium. Relay organizer Sandra Sterling said the goal is to sign up at least 40 relay teams. The Relay for Life across the country is the American Cancer Society’s biggest nationwide fundraising event. To register a walking team or take part in the cancer survivor’s lap that starts the event, call Sandra Sterling at (936) 336 3716.


E.T. Branch: The Liberty Masonic Lodge will host the Annual E.T. Branch Awards program on March 6. This annual event recognizes the teachers and administrators of the Liberty Independent School District. The E.T. Branch Award is presented to one outstanding teacher from each of the campuses in the Liberty I.S.D. This year’s winners are Kelli Chavanne, from San Jacinto Elementary, Shelly Abel from Liberty Elementary, Theresa Fitzpatrick - Liberty Middle school and Robert Smith at Liberty High.  For more information on the event, call Mike Spears at (832) 248 8418.


Rotary Club Clay Shoot: Coming up April 12th, the Liberty Rotary Club is holding a fundraising clay shoot at Clay Mound Sporting Center in Liberty. The event helps raise scholarship money for Liberty High School Students. Sponsorships are available as well. Registration for shooting participants is $100, and going on now.
